COLLEGE PARK SHOE REPAIR
Honest answers about what we do, how we work, and what to expect. If you have a question not covered here, bring your shoes in and ask us in person.
WHAT WE DO
No. We repair all kinds of footwear and leather goods. That includes shoes, boots, sneakers, sandals, handbags, belts, wallets, straps, luggage, and other leather or leather-like items.
The question we ask first is not what category something falls into. It is whether the repair is structurally worth doing and whether the material will hold.
Yes. We handle sole separation, re-gluing, worn heel counters, cleaning, and condition-related issues on sneakers. Not every sneaker material responds the same way. Bring them in and we will tell you what is realistic.
Yes. We regularly work on designer footwear and luxury handbags. We evaluate each item before committing to a repair, especially when replacement parts need to match the original materials closely.
COMMON SERVICES
If the sole is separating from the upper, we can re-glue it in most cases. The durability depends on the condition of the mating surfaces and the material. Very worn or degraded bond areas may limit how long a re-glue holds.
Worn heel tips and damaged heel blocks are common repairs. We replace worn heel caps on women’s shoes, rebuild heel stacks, and address heel counter damage on dress and casual footwear. See our heel repair page for more detail on women’s heel work.
When a sole is beyond re-gluing, we can replace it depending on how the shoe is constructed. Goodyear-welted, Blake-stitched, and cemented constructions each have different options. We will tell you what is possible before we start.
We can reduce heel height on many women’s dress shoes. The feasibility depends on the heel construction and how much reduction is needed. A small trim is usually straightforward. A significant reduction may affect the shoe’s fit and balance.
We stretch footwear in width and length using professional lasts. Leather stretches better than synthetics. We can also address specific pressure points. Results vary by material and construction.
We build up soles for leg-length discrepancies, add internal and external lifts, and make other orthopedic-related adjustments. These are not medical procedures. For clinical needs, work with your physician or podiatrist alongside our work.
Synthetic and bonded leather has limits. Once the coating delaminates or peels, the underlying material is usually too compromised to hold a repair long-term. We will tell you honestly if a repair is not worth doing.
We replace broken zippers, repair zipper pulls, and fix or replace bag straps and handles. A broken zipper does not always mean a broken bag. Bring it in and we will assess whether the repair makes sense for that specific item.
We offer shoe shining and leather conditioning. Polishing restores surface appearance. Conditioning protects and extends the life of leather. Neither substitutes for structural repair when one is needed.
TIMING
Turnaround depends on the type of repair, the current workload, and whether parts need to be ordered. Repair times vary with the current workload, material condition, and any parts that must be ordered. More involved work may take longer. We will give you an honest estimate when you drop off.
We offer an expedited service option for an additional fee of 50% of the repair price. Expedited work is scheduled at our discretion and is not guaranteed for every repair type. Ask when you drop off.
SHOP POLICIES
For most in-shop repairs, we require a deposit of at least 50% of the quoted repair price at drop-off. The remaining balance is due at pickup. We will explain your total and deposit before accepting the work. For information on material limitations and repair outcomes, read our Repair Expectations guide.
Please pick up completed repairs promptly after we notify you. If you need more time or would like to ask about local delivery, contact the shop. Our staff can explain the current unclaimed-item procedure and any applicable notices. Do not leave items without confirming a drop-off arrangement.
Yes, we offer local pickup and delivery in the College Park area. See our pickup and delivery page for details on availability and scheduling.
